It Makes You Wonder

Curiosity:  My grandmother had six children and lived on Main Street, Alvarado, Minnesota from aprox 1940- through 1960 (or more).  When I checked the population by decade, 1930=323 ; 1940=336 ; 1950=317.  And yet when I read accounts of how the town grew, thrived, with lists of who owned what properties, my family was mentioned once.  Once!  My parents both went to school in Alvarado, Dad lived there, played on most sport teams.  Grandma and Grandpa both worked at the creamery in town - I think it employed most of the townfolk!

Grandma was a big church-goer, got involved in community events and such, you'd think there'd be a mention of them somewhere!  At one point, in the 1950s, they ran a cafe.  Grandma was a great cook, and enjoyed it!  After her kids were grown, she often cooked at Bible Camp.

My hunch is it had to do with Grandpa.  He was 15 years older than Grandma.  In such a small town, usually those things don't matter, especially in 1935 when they married.

So .... it makes you wonder ......
